Who to Use? Best Card Types for Champion Success
While all card types are eligible, the winning coaches typically build their squads with high-multiplier cards:
Platinum: 1.3x multiplier
All Star: 1.35x multiplier
Diamond: 1.4x multiplier
Legend: 1.5x multiplier
Gold cards can be viable, but you'll need to nail some POD (Point of Difference) picks to compete for the top prize. Don't stress about Legend cards—they're incredibly rare, with only one per AFL player. Just cause you have their legend playing them is often not worth it.
How to Build a GameDay Squad Champion Competition squad: 3 Proven Strategies
As Platinum and Diamond player rarities are harder to pack and find, coaches new to Champion will have 3 main options to build out their squads. As they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but Legend Daicos could be 1 pack away”…

1. The All-In Coach:
For coaches ready to dominate from Day 1. 'Wake up and choose diamonds' Head to the transfer market, grab as many Diamond cards as you can, and check out the store packs for more chances to build you GameDay Squad Champion Competition squad.
💡 Hot Tip: Join the GDS Discord and chat with coaches selling Diamonds. Many offer great deals on cards not listed in the market.

2. The Moneyball Coach:
As there are only 100 Diamond versions of each AFL player, they are more rare than other versions and therefore typically cost more on the transfer market.
Quite often the highest few averaging players in each position cost significantly more than the players only slightly below.
For example, a Diamond Nick Daicos will currently cost coaches over $300 on the transfer market however right now you can pick up a Christian Petracca for around $25. That is a fraction of the cost for a player who will quite often be able to match or even outscore the top midfielders. Following this strategy across all field lines can lead to a highly competitive team at a fraction of the cost.
💡 Hot tip: keep on the lookout for GDS auctions. These diamonds are listed daily and are sold to the highest bidder. These cards usually go for less than the lowest listed version on the transfer market and can be huge value to coaches!

3. The Accumulator Coach:
Combine both strategies. Start with Moneyball players, then gradually build your squad by hunting for value in the transfer market.
💡 Hot Tip: With $1,000+ available weekly, a single round win can cover your entire team build, making the rest of the season free-rolling!
Champion Competition Strategy: Play Smarter, Win Bigger
To maximize your Champion scores, focus on high-multiplier, high-scoring cards. If you don't have a Diamond version, consider Platinum alternatives.
For example:
Platinum Harry Sheezel: 150 GDS points x 1.3 = 195 points
Diamond Callum Mills: 130 GDS points x 1.4 = 182 points
Even with a lower rarity, higher base scoring can outperform Diamonds. Always weigh card rarity against weekly matchups for optimal results.
Final Thoughts: Why Enter the Champion Competition?
The Champion competition offers the best chance for glory in GameDay Squad AFL Fantasy. With Platinum and Diamond cards required, the player pool is smaller, increasing your odds of success. Combine that with the largest weekly prizes, and it's easy to see why Champion is the ultimate competition for serious coaches.
🔥 Good luck for the 2025 season! The first round is just around the corner—are you ready to be crowned a Champion?
Cheers,
