AFL GameDay Squad Round 3 Review – Key Takeaways

The AFL GameDay Squad Round 3 Review is here! Join us as we break down the top fantasy stars, the biggest disappointments, and the PODs that turned the round on its head.

We’ll also look at how the Blokes on the Ball coaches performed across all divisions to see who this week’s dunce was.

Let’s get stuck into the AFL GameDay Squad Round 3 Review and see who dominated, who disappointed, and who was the ultimate point-of-difference hero!

Top 3 Players of AFL GameDay Squad Round 3

These three players delivered massive scores and rewarded coaches who backed them in:

Tom Libbratore

  1. Tom Liberatore – 166

Many thought the likes of Richards or Sanders were going to take Bont’s fantasy output, but it has been Libba.30 disposals, 11 tackles and a goal.

  2. Jack Sinclair – 163

Sinclair loves dominating poor teams and he did exactly that against Richmond.40 disposals and 7 marks.

  3. Lachie Whitfield – 145

A safe 34-disposal game for Whitfield including 25 kicks. He keeps getting it done and would be our first-picked defender.

3 Biggest Disappointments of the Round

Not every player lived up to expectations. These three underwhelmed fantasy coaches and left many scrambling for points:

Matt crouch from the crows

  1. Matt Crouch – 66

Crouch had a good matchup and was playing at home but struggled to find the ball, finishing with just 19 disposals and an alarmingly low TOG.

  2. Dylan Moore – 80

Back-to-back poor weeks for Moore. Really hurt coaches who backed him in, but luckily kicked a goal to half-save his score alongside 22 disposals.

  3. Jason Horne-Francis – 86

It’s been a very underwhelming year for JHF so far, and this week was no different.22 disposals and a goal is okay, but many coaches would have had him ranked in the top 3 forwards at the start of the year.

3 PODs That Won Round 3

Jy Simpkin

GameDay Squad is all about finding the right PODs at the right time. These three under-the-radar picks delivered huge scores and gave savvy coaches a massive edge:

  1. Jy Simpkin – 143

Simpkin’s CBAs are down but he is playing the linking high half-forward role perfectly.31 disposals and 7 marks. Passed the eye test—looked hungry for marks and the Kangaroos used him every chance they got.

  2. Matt Rowell - It’s the year of the Suns and Rowell is one of the main beneficiaries, collecting 36 disposals and 7 tackles.A very strong POD for coaches who backed him in.

  3. Tom De Koning – 148

Might be the last time we mention TDK in the PODs section as he is pushing for elite ruck status.28 touches, 28 hit-outs—one of Carlton’s only shining lights this season.

BOBS Coaches Round 3 Results

How did Blokes on the Ball’s squads perform in Round 3? Here’s where we finished across all divisions:

  • Classic – 15th (Score: 2859)

  • Challenger – 4th (Score: 3501)

  • Champion – 3rd (Score: 3762)

Summary:Another pretty good week for me with two top-5 finishes. Jack Steele’s late out really cost me as I missed the replacement options I wanted. Somehow, I decided to play Powell instead of Soligo—costly. As a fantasy owner and Port fan, if JHF could decide to start playing football that would be great. At least this week, fading Merrett won’t cost me a weekly win.

Summary:The round started poorly—Rozee and JHF featured in all my teams. A few bad fades with Bailey Smith and Max Holmes (I feared the Brisbane weather). The cherry on top was playing Dylan Moore—and watching the whole game. Wouldn’t recommend. Wins this week included Anderson, Brayshaw and Luke Jackson. Still alive in the GDS Cup. Whoever knocks me out (which won’t be hard) wins a Diamond Lachie Ash.

Summary:Solid round. Great pick-up finishing 2nd in Challenger. Bittersweet though, as I made a late change to bring in Matt Crouch which cost me compared to other options. Still, some good signs with consistency and hoping to snag a win early.
