Blokes on the Ball Round 0 Review

AFL GameDay Squad Round 0 Review – Key Takeaways

The AFL GameDay Squad Round 0 Review is here, join us as we break down the top  fantasy stars, the biggest disappointments, and the PODs that turned the round on its head

We’ll also look at how the Blokes on the Ball coaches performed across all divisions, to see who was this weeks dunce.

Let’s get stuck into the AFL GameDay Squad Round 0 Review and see who dominated, who disappointed, and who was the ultimate point-of-difference hero!

Top 3 Players of AFL GameDay Squad Round 0

Will Day Round 0

1.     Will Day 158 – if like me you faded him, I’m sorry. He was phenomenal, in the wet he still kicked 3 goals and was everywhere. Only had the 26 disposals and didn’t padded tackles or marks overly hard. However he’s show enough to consider him strongly in weaker team match ups. He could be a great POD for us in 2025.

2.     Darcy Cameron 156 – I was keen on him for the round, the minute Briggs went down he dominated. Typically not a Massive HO ruck, he collected 37 and 7 marks to put up a great score for the round.

3.     Lachie Ash  145 – He was phenomenal, kick outs, huge marks and was always available. After years of expecting him to break out is this finally the year? I’m not so sure but will watch with great interest. The biggest takeaway here for min is Collingwood. Collingwood’s forwards were a shambles with several tall  and small fwds providing little to no pressure. The Pies may be believing the press hype but looking at their list I’m not sure why. They will be a huge watch in 2025 if their forwards continue in this manner as a potential great def match up with Ash, Taylor, Whitfield and Himmelberg all scoring well.

3 Biggest Disappointments of the Round

Not every player lived up to expectations. These three underwhelmed fantasy coaches and left many scrambling for points:

Connor Macdonald Celebrates

1.     Sam Taylors Right hip – (Kerian Briggs 10) – Courtesy of a hip from Taylor he took my ruck out for a score of 10. This cooked all my teams for a top shot. Will be a massive

2.     Stephen Coniglio 47 – He has been a super star for out teams, I think the key part for Cogs now is unfortunately has been. Despite huge midfielder opportunity he failed to gain significant CBA time. Potentially due to a lingering shoulder injury but for me he will be a fade ongoing this year.

3.     Connor Macdonald 46 – I drafted him as my F1 in AFL fantasy Draft so this hurts double. Now he may have struggled due to the weather, but despite a goal only managed 46. Connor looked lost at sea in this game. Will take significant performances to regain my trust.

3 PODs That Won Round 0

GameDay Squad is all about finding the right PODs at the right time. Generally we would have multiple PODs in a round that are massive for us. Due to only having 2 teams there wasn’t much choice.

Sam taylor GWS

1.      Sam Taylor -139

It would have been a brave coach to play Sam and I didn’t even consider him. He looked phenomenal in this game, taking pack marks, kicked his second career goal and essentially dominated Collingwood. If you faded briggs, from a scoring point of view he went a long way to helping you win the round, even if you didn’t play him.

BOBS Coaches Round 0 Results

How did Blokes on the Ball’s squads perform in Round 0? Here’s where we finished across all divisions:

The Goal Practitioner

·       Starter – 17th

·       Classic – 27th

·       Challenger – 3rd

·       Champion – 5th

Despite having less than ideal team structures with only 3 special cards for the round, my teams still did ok.

I struggled for the rare cards in starter and my team score reflects that.

Fading Meek across the board expecting Grundy to continue to restrict rucks cost me big time, as well as my lack of Will Day respect.

Cash Money

·       Starter – 79th

·       Classic – 26th

·       Challenger – 26th

·       Champion – 18th

Tough round for Cash Money who takes out the inaugural Weekly Dunce, like me he faded meek and then struggled with injured to Briggs, Adams and Worpel all significantly impacting his team. He then was sabotaged for within by Justin McInerny and his complete lack of desire for the ball.

Beast Mode

·       Starter – 6th

·       Classic –  18th

·       Challenger – 11th

·       Champion – DNP

Final Thoughts & Round 1 Outlook

Round 0 provided unique challenges with only the 4 teams giving us an early finals experience preview. We have plenty of talking points, with my biggest points being:

1.     Finn Callaghan is goanna be a star

2.     Will Day could be a legit option.

3.     Collingwood could be a huge opportunity for us in 2025.

4.     Toby Bedford Is still the AFLs best tagger.

With another round just around the corner, it’s time to start planning for Round 1. Keep an eye on our upcoming AFL GameDay Squad Round 1 Preview to get ahead of the competition!
